Honor Your Wife
Tuesday, May 13th
How do you react toward someone you really love? You bend over backwards for that person, don't you? On the other hand, it takes an awful lot to be offended by the one you love. Why? Because, as the Bible says, "Love does not take into account a wrong suffered" (1 Corinthians 13:5). And, "Love covers a multitude of sins" (1 Peter 4:8). Yes, love is amazing! It reaches out to others. It always attempts to please others.
Of course this is the kind of love a husband should have for his wife. How is this love expressed? Well, a husband who truly loves his wife will honor her. That is, he will hold her in high esteem. He will speak about his wife with real respect. You won't find a loving husband calling his wife "the old lady".
Now the Bible gives an interesting test for this kind of love and honor. The test is prayer. Listen, "You husbands likewise, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with a weaker vessel, since she is a woman; and grant her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered" (1 Peter 3:7). You see, lack of love and honor hinders prayer.
Now the fact that there are so many prayerless families today tells us that there is a need for love and honor within these same families. If you are a husband, you have an opportunity to turn your family around. The place to start is to love and honor your wife. At the same time, you need to get down on your knees and ask God to forgive you for your lack of love. You need to ask Him to enter your life and the life of your family.
