Your Commitment to Christ

Friday, May 2nd

If you are like most people today, you are busy seeking the so called better life. It is pretty frustrating when reverses in the economy, like rising taxes, inflation, unemployment, or dips in stock market undermine the gains it has taken you several years to make.

In the midst of this frustration, Jesus Christ asks you a very important question. "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul?" (Mark 8:36). In other words, if you put all your time into bettering yourself financially, if all your energy is directed toward gathering material possessions, and you don't take time for spiritual things, you are in danger of loosing your soul.

Yes, our schools and our businesses all teach us to spend more time getting ahead and less time on spiritual things. So a lot of children, young people, and adults are ashamed to talk about Christ or even to go to church. After all, most people who have money and power don't bother with such things. Here again Jesus answers and says, 'Whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels" (Mark 8:38).

You see, what we are talking about is a life or death matter. You cannot work hard enough, earn enough material things, or give enough money to get you into heaven. The only way into heaven is to trust in Jesus Christ to take you into heaven because He has paid the penalty due to you for your sins. But if you are ashamed of Christ, He will be ashamed of you on the Day of Judgment.

So I ask you, what is your relationship to Christ? Commit your life to Him.
