The Really Precious

Wednesday, May 21st

The cosmetic industry is pretty big, isn't it? Not only so, a lot of people have undergone or are contemplating cosmetic surgery. Well, what's it all about any way? Simply put, cosmetics are used to improve our outward appearance. Because we are all interested in what we look like, the cosmetic industry is big!

But did you know that God is also in the cosmetic business? He is. He talks about "adornment" (1 Peter 3:3). The word "adornment" is a translation of the word from which we get our English word "cosmetics." But God's concern is with inner appearance, inner adornment. So He says to wives, "Let not your adornment or cosmetics be external only -braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, and putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God" (1 Peter 3:3-4).

As a wife, you are probably very concerned about your appearance. But if you are eager to be precious, not only in the sight of your husband, but also in the sight of God, you need the "imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit." This means you need to turn to the living God. You see, the only one who can apply cosmetics to blemishes in your personality or in your character is God Himself. He is able to do this by giving you His own Holy Spirit. So if you need cosmetic surgery on your heart, and you know it, talk to God about it.
