Abortion and the Bible
Thursday, May 29th
There are dreaded complications to abortion. Little Anna Rosa is one of them. She was born without an arm. This was not a birth defect. Anna was the victim of an attempted abortion. The doctor's license was suspended. What would have happened if the abortion was successful? Probably nothing. The Supreme Court decision in Roe vs. Wade has made abortion on-demand the law of the land.
Some states are now restricting late term abortions as a result of more recent Supreme Court decisions. And the Supreme Court upheld restrictions against so-called partial-birth abortions. But the number of abortions in American has still climbed to over one and one half million annually. Imagine, one-fourth of the pregnancies in America are terminated by an abortion.
But the Bible teaches that an expectant mother carries a precious human life in her womb. The psalmist David says, "My mother conceived me" (Psalm 51:5). She did not conceive a blob that later became me. No, she conceived "me". And again David says, "Thou didst weave me in my mother's womb" (Psalm 139:13). Yes, I was there, in my mother's womb, from the point of conception until I was born. If you had taken my life away from me while I was still in the womb, you would have committed murder. And to be plain spoken, "You shall not murder" (Exodus 20:13).
